Meddling in the base-jumper community is something rare. This documentary takes you into their private space. Far from the media show off, one discovers for the first time the diversity of practitioners and their disciplines. Unknown, the base-jump appears in a new light thanks to the sharp and unbiased eye of the director.
Structure of BEHIND THE EXIT
The documentary offers an original narrative line. When writing BEHIND THE EXIT, I wanted to experiment with new ways of telling a story. The film is thus organized into three distinct narratives that intertwine. Navigating freely from one to the other, the viewer then finds himself an actor in his own understanding of the film.
The main narrative is only built with the audio testimonies of the thirteen athletes. Intimate and spontaneous, the voice-over revolves around common themes and concerns. This faceless voice then becomes the expression of a community.
In the image, the two other narrations alternate. One, contemplative, follows the story of five completely different jumps. The slow pace reflects the reality of the practice. The other has a purely explanatory vocation and allows you to understand the different sub-disciplines that make up the base-jump.

Base jumper for seven years now, Vincent has adapted and dedicated his life to his sport. His professional pace, his travels, his place of life, his friends, Vincent has rearranged everything. He has made base jumping his way of life with a particular focus on wingsuit and one-piece jumps.
The original music
To get out of an extraordinary vision of the practice of base-jumping, music is a precious ally. Four professional musicians have composed in the studio from the film's images. The original music makes it possible to bring a singular and human-scale vision of the practice, far from the great classical symphonies to which the public is all too familiar.

I made my first jump in 2016. Since then, I practice on an occasional basis, which means that each start of the day of jumps is a recovery. Others have made base-jumping their way of life, they dedicate their time, their work, their friends to it. Between the two, there are those who have succeeded in finding a subtle balance. Today, I am creating my activity as a director in the Hautes-Alpes, in Guillestre. This first year I directed and produced this 52-minute documentary on the base-jump.
Why ?
There is a real gap between reality and the representation that the public has of base-jumping. So, I want to help remedy this, and highlight this rich, demanding and thoughtful sport.
